CAMINHO TORTO - ARAGONEZ & SYRAH - RESERVA 2021

The grapes for this wine are from a single vineyard and were hand-harvested in early September 2021. The grapes were de-stemmed and crushed and then underwent alcoholic fermentation with gentle manual punch downs. They were then pressed in a manual press, after which the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in small steel tanks. The wine was finally aged for 18 months in used French oak barrels and was bottled in April 2023. It was released mid-2023 after at least 3 months of ageing in bottles.

This Reserva is a limited edition and one-time production of 600 bottles. It's part of our experimental artisanal wines program, where we make very limited batches of wine every year using different techniques, new and old. A collectors wine that was awarded a Silver Medal at the Vinum wine competition in Switzerland and Germany.

Aragonez is a variety that thrives in the hot dry climate of the Alentejo and produces wines with great elegance, robustness floral and dark fruit notes. In the Alentejo it's typically blended with Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet. We decided that it would marry very well with Syrah (and does), which also thrives in the climatic conditions of the Alentejo, producing great full bodied fruit forward wines (typical of new world Syrahs), and adding spice, structure and aging potential to the Aragonez. A unique and exciting blend and the first wine in our "Limited Edition" series.
