Vinhos & Azeites do Alentejo | Wines & Olive Oils from the Alentejo

Who We Are

The Baena Mourão adventure began in 2019 when we (Lene, the Danish viking and Luis, the Portuguese barbarian) decided to take a new turn in life and start a small family business making fine wines and olive oil in Portugal based on sustainable practices and innovative winemaking techniques.

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021 we finally found a small appropriate vineyard in the Reguengos de Monsaraz sub-region of the Alentejo.

We transformed our neglected 12-hectare vineyard into a healthy place of sustainable and organic practices. By eschewing pesticides and herbicides, and using natural fertilizers, we have nurtured a harmonious relationship between the land and the vines.

We pay homage to the Alentejo's winemaking heritage with our Talha wines, our red Menina Ana and white Menino Thomas, using local grape varieties and ancient wine-making techniques to produce these unique wines.

Within our range of Reserva and Grande Reserva wines, namely Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet, we showcase the exceptional grape varieties that thrive in our region. Through meticulous vineyard management, precise fermentation techniques, and aging in used French oak barrels, we work hard at getting the absolute best out of each individual wine with each their special flavour and style.

And then we make limited editions and fun experimental wines, as our Caminho Torto (translates into crooked path) when we have the opportunity to go a little out of our way telling a new story for each wine.
